Apply as an expedition leader

Worldwide

As an expedition leader, you lead people through extraordinary regions and experience countries far beyond the usual travel routes. You keep the trip running smoothly, make decisions together with our local partners and help the group feel supported even on long days. Before departure, you also help participants with questions about equipment and preparation.

At a glance

  • Flexible assignments by arrangement, suited to the time you have available
  • Travel in Mauritania, Canada, Kurdistan, Costa Rica, Argentina and new destinations
  • Project-based freelance collaboration

What you do

  • You look after the participants before the trip: gear, preparation, open questions
  • On the road you are the group's first point of contact
  • You make decisions together with our local contacts, not over their heads
  • You strengthen the group dynamic and keep an overview in challenging situations
  • You are responsible for the first aid kit
  • You lead with composure and responsibility when a day becomes particularly demanding

What you need

  • A valid first aid certificate
  • CPR, practised rather than just certified
  • Experience in leading a group and holding it together when the plan falls apart
  • Physical fitness: heavy packs, long days, simple food and nights without a shower are part of it
  • Composure in regions where little works the way it was planned

Nice to have

  • Outdoor or wilderness first aid
  • Previous experience as an expedition leader or in leading groups
  • Besides English, French, Spanish and Arabic help most on our routes
  • Travel experience in countries with little infrastructure

Your path to becoming an expedition leader

  • Previous guiding experience is not required: we prepare you for the role
  • If you have already joined one of our trips as a participant, you bring more than you think: you know how things run, how a group grows together on the road and what a day like that does to you
  • You first join a trip in a supporting role and take on more responsibility step by step
  • This gives you practical experience until you are ready to lead your own group

Compensation

  • We cover all on-site costs during your expedition leader assignment
  • As we are a small company, we can only offer an allowance for your time on the ground rather than a fee you could live on
  • Depending on availability, you can join additional tours as a participant at a reduced rate
  • If we work well together, you can take on further expedition leader assignments regularly, depending on your availability and our tour schedule
  • We prepare you for your first assignment and have you accompany a trip before you lead a group yourself

Tell us which certificates you hold, where you have travelled and which languages you speak. Even if something is still missing, we would be happy to hear from you and explore what your path with us could look like.
